How to Use Your Warranty for Auto Repairs

When you buy a car, it will often come with a warranty. This can come in the form of a manufacturer's warranty given by the company that made your car, a warranty given my your car dealership, or a warranty sponsored by a third company. If you find your car in need of auto repairs, and you have a warranty, the first step is to read your warranty. You should already be familiar with the auto repair stipulations in your car's warranty, as the details should be determined before purchasing. Freshen up on the specifics of the auto repair requirements, and take your car into an auto repair shop or dealership.

Bring a copy of your warranty to the auto repair shop, and be sure to discuss it in detail with the mechanic. Your auto repair shop should call the handlers of your warranty to discuss payment agreements. Make sure to have a verbal agreement that the auto repairs will be covered by the warranty before the mechanic commences any of the auto repairs.

Leave a copy of the warranty with the auto repair shop so they can refer to it or call the warranty company at any time during the auto repairs should they have questions or concerns. Once you retrive your car from the auto repair shop, be sure to acquire a receipt stating your auto repairs were covered and paid for by the warranty provider, so you don't end up with a bill later.
