How to Handle a Bad Auto Repair Shop

If you have just picked your car up from the auto repair shop to find that your car is just as broken as before-- or maybe even worse than before-- there are things you can do to right the situation. The most important thing to do is to remain calm, be confident, and speak up.
The first thing to do it to talk to the mechanic who worked on your car. Don't waste time if you think something is wrong. Demand (calmly and kindly) that the problem be fixed immediately.
Ask the mechanic for a detailed list of everything he worked on in your car. This will help you determine any possible problem with the car. Once you suspect something might be wrong, go on a test drive, and offer to the mechanic to come along. Speak calmly and clearly. Don't be afraid to tell the mechanic that you think something is wrong.
Check the warantee on parts and labor the auto repairs made on your car. The auto repairs should be covered for at least three months, if not six. You can talk to the auto repair shop manager if the mechanic is not being helpful, and referencing the warantee could prove to be helpful.
If you are still having troubles in getting the auto repair shop to redo their work, tell the auto repair shop manager that you would hate for them to lose your business. You can also cancel payments on your auto repairs until they are completed or redone. Tell the auto repair shop manager of your plan.
The last step would be to take your car to another auto repair shop. If things are not resolved with the first shop, a second shop may be hesitant to get involved, and they may not honor another auto repair shop's warantee. If all else fails, report the auto repair shop to the Better Business Bureau. They will help you mediate the problem with the auto repair shop.
Remember that you have paid for a service and it is your car. Be confident in your rights, and act calm-- and maybe pick a different auto repair shop next time.
