Before you start working on your own auto repairs, it's important be prepared. Take some time to make sure you have everything you need before you pop the hood and start tinkering. Your preparation will pay off in the long run.
The first thing to do is research. Research your car (make, model, year, etc.). Research the work you will be doing. Research the parts you will need. Don't go into your car blind. If you just experiment and think you'll figure it out as you go along, you may be sorry. Talk to other people who have worked on cars, and get an idea of the work you'll be doing.
You will need to have a fully stocked tool box. Basic auto repair tools include screwdriver, pliers, sockets, torque wrench, hex keys, crescent wrench, and breaker bar. Once you do your research, you'll have an idea of the more specific tools you will need for your auto repairs.
Make sure you are prepared for safety when you are doing your auto repairs. Researching the make and model of your car will help you with this. Also make sure to work in a well=ventilated area, and take frequent breaks. Keep a flashlight handy as well as a fire extinguisher. It's a good idea to wear goggles and gloves, and keep plenty of rags near by.
Be smart when you start doing your own auto repairs for the first time. Get all the information you need to get to know your car, and then have fun!
